Personal Food Essay
After seeing the movie, Food Inc., I have many new thoughts on the way we get our food. I feel like I never want to eat meat again after seeing what they do to their animals and how they treat them so unfairly. We need reform in our food system because if we do not we will just keep having the big companies controlling everything. I think if everyone at more organic we could stop enabling the big companies in controlling what we eat. If we continue to have our food system run by only a few companies it will become even worse than it is.
First off, I feel I should become a vegetarian or at least a vegan. It is just so cruel what people do to animals. If we can change our system we would not have any animal abuse in the food industry. I think I will not buy any more food from the supermarket unless it is locally grown. By doing the map where I got my food from I now know I help others economy but not mine. I am going to change the whole way I look at food from meats to locally grown fruits and vegetables. Next year I plan to have a garden in my back yard. I hope this will make being organic easier and it would also cut down on the cost of our food. Since I have showed my parents this project and talked to them about it, we have come to a conclusion that we will buy more local meats. I think watching Food Inc., opened my eyes to all the food we eat on a daily basis. I could not believe how much of our food is actually made out of corn.
Also from watching Food Inc., I have thought more and more about eating organic foods from the super market. Having thought of eating more organic foods I am planning a garden next season. I hope eating organic will help improve the way big companies make their food. I hope John Carroll will start a garden on their property. It would be nice if they then sold that vegetable in the café so we can have a more organic cafeteria. This would help us spend less while becoming more healthy and organic. Having my family become more organic is another thing that I hope I can change. Right now my family is not the most organic but we are trying. My dad grew up on a farm so we hope with his help we can make an awesome garden. I have told my mom that she should cook with more organic ingredients and not using so many processed foods. Eating organic is just healthier and that why my parents hope we can change our life style. My family has also talked about having a composting bin for our house so we can have less trash and save on fertilizer. We will change our life style and become even more organic than we already are.
Food Inc., really surprised me in many ways. Firstly I can not believe how our food system is only owned by a few big companies. I thought originally there were many companies involved in it. I think we should change that and let the market be owned by small local companies to keep businesses in competition with each other. This would help our economy and food safety standards. With higher standards less people would get sick. Secondly I could not believe how much corn we use. I thought corn was only in few different products but now it is in almost everything we eat from meats to processed foods like chips and soft drinks. Even though corn has revolutionized the way we eat and look at product it also has its drawbacks. When cows eat corn it does not digest so we get viruses intruding into the cow’s meat. I think we should feed cows more grass and maybe people will be less sick because of foods. Also by feeding cow’s corn we increase a demand for corn which raises corn prices to where poorer countries can not get the corn. We are not just hurting the cows but other people in other countries. Finally I could not believe the ways animals are treated when they are the animal lots. At the lost they looked horrible and sick. I had known that was happening to the food I eat I would just become a vegetarian years ago. The way we treat animals should be the way we treat humans. We get fed right, then why not them? I believe it is and important subject that we should address to our government. It is not just the cows that are mistreated it is chickens and other poultry, pigs, and other animals we eat.
This is how Food Inc. has changed the ways I think of the food I eat. We can not just ignore this problem we must face and have our government change it. If the big companies change the way they produce food to a more natural way that would make our foods more organic and healthy. It would also treat animals much better. With treating our animals better we can have healthier conditions for our animals. Having healthier conditions for our animals will make it less likely for people to be sick of tainted meats. I hope we can start a change that will affect our food system for generations. If we can do this by everyone planting a garden that would just help everything organic and everyone can pay less and be healthy. If we don’t change we will have the same spiraling downward food system. I don’t think big companies should bully us around by suing us for saying things against their company. We need to stand up and fight these companies for control back over our food system. What would you do to start a revolution against the big food companies to stop their cruelty?

The Recording is about a Persian insult, Inuit language, foreign movies and Urdu words. The first point covered is the Persian insult. This was about the Iran president using a term that is uncommon for a high office to say. This stirred up controversy and excitement. People feel since he is the president he should not use the slang terms. Though others may feel he is using the people’s language. This is the debate everyone is having in Iran right now.
The second point is about a dying society. This is how a man is going to live in an Inuit community for a year and learn their ways. He is trying to record their ways of life and their language. Also he is trying to save their whole culture from going into extinction or being modernized. This is a very important thing to do because it is saving a culture and a native language.
The third thing covered in the recording is foreign movies. Foreign movies are a so called dying breed; they are beginning to lose more and more interest and viewers. The styles of showing them have changed a lot too. They used to just show the movie in a local theater then hoped it got spread by word of mouth. Now they show it in a big theater for important critics and then they would have the movie on demand the next day.
The final point covered is the mass confusion in the Urdu language. The Urdu language has one word with two different meanings. The first example is tomorrow and yesterday. They both are the same word in Urdu but they mean opposite things. People have trouble understanding them but use the verbs in the sentence to make it more understandable. The second example is to go straight and turn right. Like the first example but there are no verbs to tell them apart.

The Effects of 9/11
9/11 has affected the world in many ways. Through the snowball effect it changed our whole airport security and economy. It also has changed the way we travel internationally. It has also helped change technology to be better secured for travel. In our blog we’ll cover the most important effects
The beginning effects of 9/11 were the traveling and cost to travel. The way we traveled then has drastically changed to now. After 9/11 air traffic dropped from over 7 million people to below 4 million in a year. This is due to insecure passengers and bad security. Between the years of 2001 and 2002 the global economy experienced a lower demand for people wanting to travel through the FAA.
The first days after 9/11 the whole air system shut down and no one could travel. The economy followed that fuel and ticket prices were drastically raised and made it harder to travel. They also bumped up security a lot to prevent any more attacks. Companies raced to build the next generation of security technologies. Because of the less people traveling internationally, trade was down dramatically along with jobs and businesses.
With World Trade Center down, it did not help with the economy and trade businesses to recover as fast as they needed to. While recovering from 9/11 the air traffic system was on their way to creating and new and improved way to track in coming and going planes. They also worked on the security and safeness of all the airport companies to improve safeness and prevent future disasters like 9/11. These are the beginning effects but not the last they continue make things safer and better for the whole world. America has set the bar for the standards of air safety.
The effects of 9/11 are still changing the way we travel. Through the recent years air travel has been up and improved. Destinations have changed tremendously though. More people travel within the country now instead of outside. They now have longer wait times to go through all the check points to keep a safe and controlled system.
Since 9/11 technology has made a change for the better. The equipment in airports all around the world is the most up-to-date technology you can find. The prices of the equipment are very high but airlines purchase them because it makes their airline safer. Today’s technology and equipment include full body scanners and high-end metal detectors. These all help make our airports safer and more efficient in stopping future attacks.
The constantly changing rules and regulations make it harder and longer to get on flights. It also restricts what you can bring on a flight. The economy today is still recovering. We are constantly moving in and out of the country and that makes it very hard to keep track of everyone.
That is why today’s air systems keep improving and helping everyone stay safe when they travel by air.
9/11 also had a large effect on the future economy and the future air travel. The effects of 9/11 were started back then but have continued into our time now. Although the economy underwent a major recession and has since recovered the effects have traveled with us for years and will most likely follow us for many more.
The events of 9/11 have also affected the future technology used by the FAA. The FAA now is moving from using radar based navigation to more advanced satellite based navigation. While radar technology needs the airplane to fly over the radars on the ground to get the airplanes location, the satellites would be able to find the airplanes location anywhere in the county at any time.
There is also is new developing airport security for the future. There are new securities systems in development in counties that already are in use in others. For example airports are now using hidden cameras that can give away certain reactions when asked questions, like a rise in the heart rate or the body temperature rising suggesting that they are nervous or they are lying when asked a question. While now in America we are in development of different airport security. It is called the Future Attribute Screening Technology or FAST. It is kind of like a polygraph test or a “lie detector”. It is able to look over lines of people and if it has found someone of interest that could be a possible terrorist or someone who might harm someone else, and then if he is chosen by security for additional screening it can then detect certain facial movements that could mean he is lying or possibly telling the truth.
With the use of this new technology and more security personnel airports hope to put an end to terrorism in the airports altogether. With the technology it makes the airports safer and it makes it easier to pick out a person of interest from a crowd. But if it wasn’t for 9/11 we would not have to go through the trouble of creating all the new security and that is how 9/11 affected the future of air travel.
