8. Would you have followed Alexander into Persia? Write a short story telling your tale from the point of view of one of Alexander's inner circle.

Day 1000292047984377564758732658742098

I'm sitting at a table with alexander eating some persian food and stuff. I think Alex is getting crazier each day. He wants us to do this and to do that i want to punch him in the face. He thinks he so cool but sometimes I want to slap him for trying to conquer the world. I said lets chill in our little palaces and huts. We could just be happy, eating our little food and having fun. He just wants to make a myth of himself . I REPEAT HE IS JUST MAKING A MYTH OF HIMSELF. His story has been expanded more than anyone can know. Most of the stuff he has said in his myth. This is the myth he is creating. Alexander will probably kill me later for writing this but i can't leave it unsaid. Finally he no great leader he forces us to keep going no matter what. He just won't stop.

11. How did Alexander create his own myth?

Alexander created his own myth. He would tell his historian to record things out of proportion. His hired a scholar would write things down that were not true. He made things sound better than they ere they made him look like an unstoppable force. Alexander also conquered the ancient city of Troy.  He also did some religous visits to create his myth too. For  example he went to the temples of Greek gods asking for their help of the battlefield. Alexander also made allies with Egypt and created Alexandria which would become the center of learning as well as trade.

9. Could a force like Alexander the Great exist today? Why or why not?

Yes I believe a force like Alexander's could exist today. This is true because I have an army double Alexander's in my backyard. Other than that I believe the U.S has a huge army and we have been recruiting. There was a smaller population back then and they would not have as big as army because of that. Now we have even bigger populations, and now we can have bigger armies. Many other countries also have armies that big. So just the armies are big enough to destroy Alexander. But I'm not sure there is a leader that could bring people together for a force that big. Alexander had special traits that made him a great leader. So I'm on both sides of this question.

4. Describe relations between Egypt and Persia before Alexander came on the scene.

The relations before Alexander came in between Egypt and Persia are bad. Persia would bully Egypt and would never stop. They both hated each other but neither could conquer the other. The Egyptians hated the Persians because they didn’t believe in their gods. The Persians would disrespect the Egyptian gods. Alexander the Great came to Egypt so they could back him up when he went into Persia. They saw him as a savior and  honored him and the son of the sun god.  Alexander then created the city of Alexandria which became the largest port in the known world. This city became the learning center of the world. This is how the relations of Persia and Egypt were before Alexander came.

3. Based on what you know about Aristotle, do you think Alexander had listened carefully to his tutor?

I think that Alexander payed attention to Aristotle. Aristotle taught Alexander a lot. He learned thing from Aristotle including religionsmedicinemoralsart, and logic. When Alexander went on his campaigns, Aristotle gave him a copy of the Iliad. This was Alexanders favorite epic. Alexander used many of Aristotle's lessons in his campaign. Aristotle gave Alexander many lessons that would help him on many of his military expeditions.  While in Aristotle's classes he was with his other students. They eventually became his war generals This shows how Aristotle taught many leaders and was a great teacher that Alexander listened too.

1. What compels someone to lead others?

Many things can compel people to lead. People can be born to leadership or just strive for it. Some people just lead because they can lead. Leading people is tough but some people can. For example, Alexander the Great lead people and they followed him. He was wanted to get back at the Persians for killing his father. That is a good reason to lead others. If you want revenge you could lead you army and slaughter innocent people. Because that is the best way to do things. If someone killed my papa I would slap that person and lead a small army of like 30,000 to destroy that persons house and family. That would make everything good and I could laugh at that person because their family is dead. This is one reason for people to lead others. Another reason could be you want to be famous. Evan if you fail you could be famous. If you took like an army of 20,000 men and fought and army of 2,000 and you lost that would make you go down in history. You would be a loser but you would have lead people and have been famous.

Dailies #17

2. Do you think Alexander honestly felt like he was avenging Persian wrongs? Or was that just propaganda to mask his goal of conquest?

I think Alexander was on his way to conquer the world. I think it was just propaganda to cover his Propaganda. He just wanted to conquer the world. Because the Persians were just chilling over in Persia and he just came over there. Greece has already beat the Persians. I don't think they need to go into Persia. I think Alexander wanted to be the ruler of the world because he is just that awesome. He just like me I'm awesome and will soon conquer the world. I have no reason to conquer the world but I will and so did Alexander. I think He wanted to write his own myth because he is awesome.

Question: Is History Created by 'the People' or by Individuals? Write a script for a movie about the events that took place in Athens during the Peloponnesian Wars. You should create a character that will live through some of the major events and you will tell the story through that character's eyes. Your character should be a common Athenian unknown to history. Scripts should be between three and five pages (longer is ok) and must include at least two major events. Be creative, but stick to the historical reality of what took place. Really think about what it would have been like to live in this time period and think about structuring your script so that there is some real drama. Imagine in your head what it would look like if we decided to film the script. (In fact, we might!) Email me if you have questions.

5. Explain how the origins of theatre in Athens are tied to both religion and politics.

The origins of theater are found in politics and religion in Athens. Athens was centered around their politics and religion. So no wonder that their theater would include both sides. Everything in Athens was decided on through councils and democracy. We base our government like the one they had in Athens. Because they were so involved with there government, that there was now way that it wouldn't effect their theater. They could base plays of war conquests or people fighting about the vote count. Religion also played a big part. It help give the plays mystery. They could use the Gods to entertain the people. They could also make stories about how the Gods are. This would incorporate most of their religion. But also they can reenact stories about the Gods and their religion. With that people could understand more about their religion and children would get first hand encounters with their religion.

4. Was Athens really a 'democracy'?

Athens developed one of the first democracies ever. It was made up of the different common Athenian people. A democracy is a form of political organization which all people through their vote exercise their equal control over peoples interests. Democracy is Greek for rule of the people. After Athens made their democracy, many Greek city states followed after them. Athens was a powerful democracy and was the only stable one in the Greek world. It was considered a direct democracy. A direct democracy is a democracy that had no elected rulers. This was a time when people no matter your social status.

2. Why do people write a record of their past? How does what happened yesterday in your life affect what you choose to do today?...or does it? Do we all see yesterday the same way. Choose a material object--get your digital camera... take at least 25 photos of it all from different angles or vantage points. Team up with a class member and have them photograph the same object -- compare and contrast your photos on a blog post. How do different human beings view the same object?

1. Do you think Socrates got what he deserved? Why didn't he accept exile?

No Socrates was not deserving of anything. He was so chill and he just wanted to think. He was a nice person and maybe was just a little slow. He couldn't help it, it was the way he was born. He couldn't chose the way he looked. He just wanted to live and be normal. He liked to think and he got persecuted for it. It was done unjustifiably. He was just trying to tech people and think in new ways. People after the war wanted someone to blame so they chose the weird one who always thought in different ways. He didn't accept exile because he wanted to be free. He wanted to be able to think in his won way. He wanted to question society.  Socrates only wanted to think differently but when it came down to it nobody else thought he was right. This is why I don't think socrates deserved everything he got.

"Structures, both social and physical are continually improving." agree or disagree

I have two thoughts about these structures. First off I believe our physical structures are improving. For example: When an earthquake happens a long time ago, buildings would collapse easily. Now they do not collapse as easily and stand strong. Because of the way they learned how to build buildings in a new way they can now withstand an earthquake. We have made amazing progress on structure near water too. For example we have made it so structure near water cannot flood. We also have made levies that can stop the water from overflowing. We have revolutionized the way our structures our built and where we live. We can now live anywhere without fear of floods and earthquakes. I’m not saying they can’t happen but now we are better protected. Secondly I believe social structure is in a decline. We barely have a middle class anymore. In the past we have had a huge middle class. We also had a little rich class and a little poor class. But nowadays it seems that we have a dwindling middle class and either you’re rich or you’re poor.

What is the oldest human-created artifact that has mattered to you? Why/how does it matter?

I would say that the Herndon Statue is my favorite artifact. It is located at the Naval Academy. It is a tall grey obelisk in the middle of the square in front of the school.  It was erected in memory of Captain Herndon who decided to go down with his ship on September 12, 1857. Everyone else aboard the ship were saved by a nearby ship during the storm. This a really cool structure because it is used by the academy. Each year the plebe class is asked to climb to the top and replace a Dixie cup. With a upperclassmen cap on top of it.  But there a twist that it is greased down and they must climb it. This is very hard because in the hot sun they lose stamina rally quick. They continually fight back and forth on whether or not to grease it because of injury. I chose this statue because I want to got to the Naval Academy when I get older.  I have been there many of times in the past year and all the people are so nice and you get a really good education. I also think the statue is very honorable because of how the Captain went down with his ship. That is why I think this statue is my favorite artifact.

Why do you think so many conspiracy theories surround the pyramids and the megaliths? Give examples of a few and explain where you think they come from.

I think there is a lot of conspiracy involving megaliths. when you talk about megaliths we usually don't know who built them. so wee think that it could be aliens who visited our planet many years ago. This would explain how they got there. Some times we don't think that is the past they were evolved enough to understand how to build big megaliths like stone henge or the statues on eater island. People also can make up stories that eventually become what we know as the truth.  Also there is a lot of conspiracy around pyramids. The Pyramids have a lot of conspiracy surrounding them. Because we can barley read there language its hard to know all about them. They seem very mystical and a landmark everyone thinks of when you say Egypt. No body really knows exactly what happened in ancient Egypt but many believe the pyramids are the tombs of the Pharaohs. We also don't know exactly how they made them but it must have taken years and by the time they finished it was already a new ruler to make a tomb for.We have many theories and we may never find out how they did it or why they had made them. This all the conspiracy surrounding the Pyramids and Megaliths.

"War is a form of technology". Agree or Disagree.
I agree that war is a form of technology. Technology always is changing and becoming new.  It is just like war because the way we wage war has changed. We fight differently then we did back in the 15th century. Compared to now we have so much more things to help us. Back then they didn't have all the communication we have now. Before you would have to send messages back and forth to communicate now we can send a message through wireless devices and email things. Another aspect of war as a technology is the weapons. The weapons have changed drastically over the years. First we started with the sword and evolved over the years and now we have guns and explosives. The weapons we have now would just kill back then. No one could touch you because you could just be like bam your dead. I think we should build a time machine and go back in time and give our weapons to all the wars we lost and just rule the world. I think we have made excellent progress in technology and war. I'm not saying war is good but war eventually will make peace. That is how war is a form of technology.

This stone circle was probably constructed in the Neolithic era. Its use is currently unknown but many scholars today believe the circle located on the John Carroll school campus is used as a sun dial or a calendar. Some people believe that it was used in ceremonies of the early druids. Some locals have stories about how the stones rearrange themselves every four years. The ground around the stone is also more fertile than any other soil in the area this makes people believe that the stone has some mystical powers.

Question: Is 'Change' a Good Thing or a Bad Thing? (Relate to the origins of art, the agricultural revolution, architecture and urban planning in Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley.

Change is a great thing it helps us advance in our lives make things easier and life easier. When we progress we learn different things and new ways to do simple things. Through Progress we can learn different things that can help us and protect us. With new advance we can produce things in larger proportions and help more people. I believe that through change we make our world better. We can make this change through industry, agriculture, and shelter.

Change is great when it come to industry. Industry is based off our accomplishments in our lives. It is also based off the advances we make in technology and work. With industry we have work and people can make a living.  Through industry we make jobs and advance in society. Advancements in industry help us change the way we have jobs. When a job changes we have more jobs which means we can have more people.

Also when we have change in agriculture we can support our cities. When we have advancements in agriculture: which can include new seeds, ways to plant them, seasons. and growing enhancers, they ca help us change the face of our world and change the way we eat and find food. With progress in agriculture we can feed the world. When we feed the world we can bring peace. So in turn change helps bring peace to our world.

Also change helps when it come to shelter.  When an earthquake happens long time ago building would collapse easily, but now they don't. Because of the way they learned how to build buildings in a new way they can now withstand an earthquake. We have made amazing progress on structure near water too. For example we have made it so structure near water can not flood. We also have made levies that can stop the water from overflowing.

As said before, change is a great thing it helps us advance in our lives make things easier and life easier. This is why change is good. Change is just the coolest thing that can happen. Like I love change because it improves on its predecessor. For example Call of Duty Black Ops just beats MW2 because of how awesome it is and just how it beats it in newness and being better.  This is why I believe change is a great thing to have and makes everything better.

3. Which do you think is a better roadmap of history artifacts of the humanities (art, music, dance, theatre, literature, philosophy, architecture, etc) or political/military conflicts? Why? (from Twitter)

I think the better road map for history is through war and military conflicts. I think this is best because through military conflicts you can crush other countries and spread your countries power and soon you will control the whole world. They can leave there culture and impression on the whole world and its history. If you conquer an area of land you would be able to change their language to yours and you would be passing your history and culture down which is in turn leaving your impression on the world. Also when you try to invade another country they'll always remember that you almost conquered them. Through big wars many people can remember them because they are very important in our history. For example we remember the Trojan war or WW2. These wars have shaped the world into what it is now. We manly hear about wars which people will remember and have shaped our world. I think the our world is manly shaped by our military conflict/wars.

2. YOU ACCIDENTALLY DISCOVER AN INVENTION THAT CAN IMMEDIATELY HELP MILLIONS OF PEOPLE; BUT ONLY IF YOU ACT IMMEDIATELY. ON THE OTHER HAND, IF YOU JUST WAIT THREE MONTHS, YOU CAN SECURE A PATENT AND GET RICH. WHICH DO YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

I would choose to get rich because I'm not really a people person and I rather get rich. If I got rich I could by a time machine and go back in time to save those people and then show them that i had killed them so i can get rich. Also if they died that means less people to deal with on our planet. I would have probably invented something that will stop like cancer or some kind of aids destroying peanut butter. I would also donate some of the money to research other drugs to help people. I would then become the world’s largest drug dealer. I would be able to cure everything then the people would love me and elect me President. As the President I would help bring peace to everyone and everyone would love me. They would give the Peace Prize and elect me Emperor of the World. When I rule the world I will take over all the other planets and make interplanetary peace and the Interplanetary Ruler. That’s why I would chose to get rich off my invention.

4. Describe the importance of water in the ancient world. (from Twitter)

Water was very important to people in the ancient world. Any place close to water was generally an area with fertile soil and has lots of water. With this connection people in ancient world could plant and have cities built around these agricultural area. With the areas supported with water they could build civilizations and countries. Water also creates civilizations that can fish. Fishing communities can lead into different water front industries to bring income to the town.Fish can be used for food and other resources. You can use the fish bones and make tools and weapons.Civilizations built off water should be more successful compared to one built in the middle of the dessert.  Fishing communities can bring food to them selves with allow them to expand and get resources they didn't have. Water is a great defense against the meanies that try to attack you. Water front countries also make out better when it comes to trading witrh other people. They can also have water defense which would help protect them. Also with water they could travel to others and could pick up new ideas or inventions. They could also find new culture and ways to make food. When you find new culture you can take it over and gain new land and enslave the new culture. You could make them into your personal servants and make them make your own food. The slaves could make boats and help you advance in your culture.
