9. Were the Julio-Claudians really as bad as they seem?
The Julio Claudian dynasty is the first five emperors who ruled in the Roman Empire. The rulers consists of Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero. Many people portray the emperors as evil people and made them seem like mean people. First was Augustus, he kept on remarrying his only daughter, Julia, so he could possess an heir to the thrown after he died. The Next was Tiberius he was adopted by Emperor Augustus. Then was Caligula, he became the first “Julio Claudian” emperor because he belonged to both ancestries. Not only that however, he was also a direct descendent of Augustus Caesar. But even with his powerful dynasty, Caligula was insane. He found it funny to kill people, he killed his own cousin so that he would be emperor. Claudius was next he was Caligula’s uncle. Claudius was found hidden behind a curtain. Nero was next in line to the throne when Claudius died from poison. Nero was the last Julio Claudian. When the Roman Empire erupted into flames he played his violin as it burned to the ground. These emperors were weird but nothing out of the ordinary.
